Im sitting here in the studio by myself, its 8:36 am, I am wide awake. Our new record is playing in the background and its strange to me to listen to what I’ve made and not cringe and turn it off right away. At this point I understand what it means to be satisfied. Its not about anybody else liking your record, its about you liking your record. As long as you’re happy with it, and it turned out to be exactly what you wanted it to be, then it doesn’t matter if anyone else likes it, because there is nothing like having to defend a piece of your work you hate. I’ve had to do that for 7 albums, and now that this one is done I can’t wait to share it and can’t believe it took this long. Anyway, its early and Im a bit philosophical.
I’ve been driving Greg to work at 5 am for the past 5 days and it feels a bit like I have insomnia, Atlanta traffic is horrid, and he works 45 minutes away without traffic, hense why I am up so early.
I came home about half hour ago from driving him, and our dogs had gotten into the trashcan, ate everything that was edible and left little presents for me to clean up.
So recap: woke up at 4:30am, drove Greg to work, sat in traffic, got home, trash everywhere, cleaned the apartment, got dressed for work, came to the studio, and now making cds. phew.
We finally get the van today, it needed to have the roaders changed and its taking Midas 3 days, but its alright. Im looking forward to being able to stand in the van while moving. Its way more luxurious than anything I thought we would buy. Its still gonna be DIY inside, with wooden lofts, Im painting the walls and drawing on them, but its nice to have space when you’ll be on the road for at least the next 7 months.
Lastly, and very importantly, I want to thank Jeff Carano from Babicz guitars. I received the guitar yesterday after missing the FedEx guy the day before, and my baby came back sparkling clean, with brand new strings on, polished and sounding like heaven. Also in the box, Jeff stuffed a good number of tank tops, t-shirts and sweaters ( which I am SO excited about) and I am wearing one of their tanks right now.Thank you Jeff, you have, no joke, secured my future on the road for the next 7 months.

Missin my black, slender Babicz beauty…
For those of you who’ve seen us live, you’ve asked me many questions about the guitar I play. Due to the kindness of our mastermind guitar virtuoso friend and mentor John Wesley, I was given a Babicz guitar. The particular model I play is a Babicz Octane Series guitar. A nice, deep black, slender beauty. That guitar has made a change in my musical career. It is both a fully electric and fully acoustic guitar with an acoustic pick up and 3 electric S.D. pick ups. I can control just how much of what I want it to sound like depending on the nature of the show. Usually I’ll split the line with a Morley A B switch- go direct in the PA fully acoustic and go electric in the amp for thickness. It’s a masterpiece. I think everyone show have one. Also, their full acoustic guitars make symphony. The body is big and gives it a natural reverb, they play like your favorite, seasoned, old guitar, with that warmth and low end but never rattley or fuzzy, just pure magic. If you folks have the time, check it out:www.babiczguitars.com .
The reason I’m talking about this is because the guys at Babicz, especially Jeff Carano (co-founder) have been very kind to us. I’ve been using my guitar as my only concert guitar for the past 2 years 200 shows at least a year, and I was in need of a full tune up before we hit the road for 7 months. They said “no problem, send it in and we’ll make sure all is in the right place”. So I’ve been sad and guitarless and have had to play other guitars I have, but it’s not the same. Every day I hope that the mail man has come
so I can play that baby again. Sigh.
Watching Rattatoule tonight with the fam, I know it’s stupid, but that’s one of my all time favorites. I’ve always had a dream of being a professional chef, and this little flick always puts me in a good mood. Love it.
All is in order for tour and music life to start up again. Going to my day job and dealing with every day home things is something I cherish and take pride in oddly enough, I like my normal, old lady, regular life, but my heart is in music and in the road, so I’ve been feeling strange lately, like I’m just passing time and counting down the days till tour. What a dreamer I am.
Tomorrow mom and marina leave and Im not quite ready for them to go, but I’ll be going home to St. Petersburg in just 3 short weeks, so it’s not as hard. Sleepy time is in order. Tomorrow will be fun.
